Wide aisle racking is the most commonly used system for storing palletised unit loads. Fast throughput and ease of unloading / loading, make it extremely popular.
Easy loading and unloading
Pallet racking is arranged in a wide aisle pattern, a minimum of 2.5 metres wide aisles, and requires no specialised handling equipment. Loading and unloading is straight forward and hassle-free.
Accessibility
In a wide aisle pallet racking system each pallet is individually supported and independently accessible. There is 100% accessibility to each and every pallet.
Standard MHE keeps overall costs down
There is no need for specialist handling equipment to operate wide aisle racking. A standard counter balance truck can be used in aisles 3.5 to 4 metres wide. Reach trucks can work in aisles as low as only 2.5 metres wide (depending on height and load).
Speed
Whilst more footprint-heavy than other dense forms of racking, using roughly 40% of the available floor space, wide aisle racking is one of the quickest to access systems, with full pallet availability. Speed of access is enhanced by the fact that trucks and pickers can pass each other in the aisle allowing multiple access (where safe to do so).
A limitation of using standard lift trucks is that the racking system’s height is restricted to the maximum lift height of the trucks.
