Mezzanine floor safety inspections are an integral part of NSI’s System of Safety
Mezzanine safety inspections are required to comply with the PUWER (The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) guidelines. This is in order to maintain health and safety standards and to prevent and minimise the effect of accidents in the workplace. This states clearly your mezzanine floor, racking or shelving should be regularly inspected by a person proven competent to do so.
There is currently no SARI qualification for mezzanine floor safety inspections. NSI Projects inspect our customers’ floors using one of our experienced mezzanine floor surveyors or qualified mezzanine structural engineers. The frequency of inspection should really be risk assessed by you. Typically our customers will have their mezzanine safety inspection carried out once every two years, with a system of regular internal visual inspections.
All mezzanine floors should be properly maintained and in good order
We do follow the Red, Amber, Green damage classifications used by SEMA for pallet racking as far as they are applicable. Please ask to see an example of an actual report if you think this would be useful.
We will inspect and comment on the state of the decking boards, the deflection of main steels and secondaries, of welds, fixings and cleats, of fire rating integrity and the interaction of the floor structure with the concrete slab. You will get easy to read, full written report and a suggested course of remedial action in the case of any serious damage.
We can follow this up with fully costed repair schedules. However, we are very keen to keep this separate from the inspection report itself, to maintain its integrity as a professional document.
