Polestar UK has taken a significant step forward with the expansion of its operations through the opening of Polestar Bicester, supported by NSI. This new multi-purpose facility is located within a carefully redeveloped two-storey building that reflects the brand’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. The upper floor of the facility serves as the headquarters for Polestar UK, where a team of operational staff is dedicated to providing support for the approximately 8,000 Polestar owners across the country. This strategic location plays a critical role in Polestar’s UK operations, hosting key departments such as Sales, Operations, Marketing, and Communications. By bringing together these essential teams under one roof, Polestar aims to enhance efficiency and ensure a seamless customer experience.

Polestar Bicester is not only a testament to the brand’s expansion in the UK market but also aligns with its ambitious global objectives. As part of Polestar’s broader vision, this facility contributes to the company’s goal of delivering 290,000 vehicles worldwide by 2025. The Bicester location is positioned to play a pivotal role in achieving this target by supporting both the operational and strategic needs of Polestar in the UK.

 


Company Background

Polestar is a premium electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, originally established in 1996 as a high-performance motorsport division of Volvo Cars. Headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, Polestar was redefined in 2017 as a standalone brand specialising in the design and production of electric cars, reflecting the automotive industry’s shift towards sustainability and innovation. In addition to manufacturing vehicles, Polestar is dedicated to promoting transparency and ethical practices in the automotive industry. The company publishes Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) of its cars to provide detailed insights into their environmental impacts, and it strives to achieve climate neutrality throughout its supply chain and operations by 2040.

 


Project Overview

The project entailed the transformation of an empty building located at an old military site into a cutting-edge sales centre for Polestar new car showroom. The facility serves multiple functions over 2 floors, including showcasing the latest cars, providing office space for business operations. The ground floor is utilised as a car showroom, while the first floor houses office space, including a mix of credit support and administrative staff, as well as the UK business leaders. The project also included the installation of state-of-the-art showroom, meeting facilities and a dedicated presentation area for official press launches of new products.


NSI Projects Solution

The primary objective of this project was to convert the existing shell and core structure of the building into a fully functional, state-of-the-art office and showroom. The facility now provides an innovative and professional environment that reflects the brand’s image and supports the launch and promotion of new cars from Polestar. The ground floor showroom displays the latest car models, while the first-floor office space offers a modern workspace for the company’s administrative and support teams. Additionally, the facility will include a dedicated space for press events, enhancing the company’s ability to conduct official product launches.

From the initial stages of design and planning through to the execution and completion of the project, NSI provided a turnkey solution to Polestar to deliver a completed building, ready on time for occupation. As their client representative, NSI led the design development from concept through to sign off by the client,  prepared and managed the tendering process to select and appoint sub-contractors and managed the total project through to its completion. NSI also acted as Principal Contractor and Principal Designer to plan and manage the health and safety on site, providing full-time on-site management and taking the overall responsibility to keep people safe.

NSI managed every aspect of the project, from inception to completion, and with the highest standards of professionalism and care, to deliver the finished building on budget, with no recordable H&S incidents and in time for Polestar to host their first press launch from the site.

The project was fully completed within the 24 weeks schedule. This timeframe includes the interior fit-out of the Car showroom and office spaces, installation of technological infrastructure, and final preparations for the facility’s operational launch.
