RNCM Celebrates Gamelan Arrival
Toby Smith, Director of Performance & Programming commented:
'Ever since our gamelan arrived from Indonesia, we’ve wanted to present a weekend that features the widest range of performances, from Javanese song and dance to shadow puppetry, alongside a programme of hands-on workshops designed for everybody – and that’s what lies at the heart of this first RNCM Gamelan Weekend – an unashamed celebration of the intimate beauty and exuberant energy of these remarkable instruments
When the celebrations were over the college had to store the instrument! This was proving to be a problem until they called NSI. The instruments proved to be a challenge as their variety of shapes and weights and the fact that they are vulnerable to damage meant a well-considered solution was required.
NSI’s knowledge of all suppliers specifications led to them proposing Long span shelving finished in powder coating with concealed fitments and fastenings so as to give smooth rolled edges to minimise damage to stored instruments. 18mm chipboard seated in stepped 2400mm beams gave further protection and the variety of storage apertures required
